I have had a lot of people asking me what I am going to do now. I had a great year, but came up one run short of making it back for my second Olympics. Now I am back in Charlotte, realizing that ecaping the Games in the month of August will be impossible, so I am forced to face my pain on a daily basis.
After this season I had a lot of questions to ask myself. The first decision was whether or not I wanted to continue my whitewater slalom career. Could I be content to stop kayaking right now? And after about 2 weeks, the answer is a resounding NO.
My next question was not much of a question... I am going to apply to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill to finish my economics degree. Hopefully that goes well.
Next, how do I afford to keep training? While I hope that the USOC will continue to support me, I can't rely on that. So I am trying to find work that will pay the bills but still give me the time I need to train.
The final question is much harder and is what has been taking up most of my brain activity: What do I change or evolve in my training to get good enough that this doesn't happen again? I have some ideas. Stay tuned for details... -Brett
